AnvilOps is a one-person practice today. As client volume grows, two roles come first. If either sounds like you, send a note — we will keep you in mind when budget catches up to ambition.

DevOps Engineer

You would own the operations side of client work. Retainers, on-call rotations, infrastructure automation, and the boring-but-critical platform engineering that keeps customer environments healthy.

What you would own

  • Day-to-day operations for a portfolio of retainer clients
  • Infrastructure automation: pipelines, observability, deployment tooling
  • Incident response and on-call rotation across our client base
  • Direct customer conversations — technical, but in plain English

What we would look for

  • Strong Linux, networking, and cloud fundamentals across at least one major provider
  • Comfort with container platforms, infrastructure as code, and observability tooling
  • Patience with documentation. Real patience, not interview-answer patience.
  • Steady temperament under pressure. You stay calm when things break.

What we would not expect

  • A computer science degree. We hire for what you can do.
  • Mastery of every tool we use. We expect you to learn what you do not know.

Software Developer

You would own the engineering side — customer-facing tooling, internal automation, integrations, dashboards, and the product work that makes operations scalable instead of a treadmill.

What you would own

  • Internal tooling that makes our retainer work efficient
  • Customer-facing dashboards, portals, and integration software
  • Automation that replaces manual operational toil
  • Sharing engineering thinking with clients when needed

What we would look for

  • Comfortable across the stack: backend, frontend, scripting, and the glue between them
  • Practical taste in what to build, what to buy, and what to defer
  • Real writing ability. Code, documentation, and customer communication all matter.
  • Curiosity about infrastructure even if you have not lived in it daily

What we would not expect

  • A specific language or framework background. We pick what fits the problem.
  • FAANG-style scale experience. We optimize for clarity, not headcount.

Based in central Indiana is a plus for client visits, but we hire the best person regardless of zip code.
